Position: L2/L3 Protocol Testing Engineer

Location: Bangalore, India

Job Summary: Happiest Minds Technologies is seeking experienced L2/L3 Protocol Testing Engineers to join our team in Bangalore. As a Protocol Testing Engineer, you will be responsible for testing and validating L2/L3 network protocols, creating test plans, and ensuring the performance and benchmarking of network protocols. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in L2/L3 protocol testing, excellent Python scripting skills, and a solid understanding of networking concepts. If you are passionate about network testing, have hands-on experience with traffic generators and test automation, and enjoy working in a dynamic and innovative environment, this role is for you.


  1. Perform test plan creation and execution for L2/L3 protocols to ensure the functionality and reliability of network systems.
  2. Conduct TCP RFC validation to ensure compliance with industry standards and protocols.
  3. Perform network protocol performance and benchmarking testing to evaluate system efficiency and scalability.
  4. Utilize IXIA Test Equipment for testing and validate the performance of network protocols.
  5. Prepare test setups and configurations to replicate real-world network environments.
  6. Conduct 100G testing on Intel-based systems to assess system performance at high data rates.
  7. Perform testing and validation of TCP offload and DPDK (Data Plane Development Kit) implementations.
  8. Develop and maintain test automation scripts using Python programming skills to streamline testing processes.
  9. Demonstrate expertise in traffic generators such as TRex, Ixia, Spirent, or other packet generators.
  10. Configure and set up traffic flows, including Virtual Tunnel Endpoints (VTEPs), to simulate network traffic patterns.
  11. Apply a deep understanding of networking concepts to identify and troubleshoot network-related issues.
  12. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers and network engineers, to analyze test results, debug issues, and propose solutions.
  13. Stay updated with the latest industry trends and advancements in L2/L3 protocols and network testing methodologies.
  14. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members as required.


  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  2. 3-10 years of professional experience in L2/L3 protocol testing.
  3. Strong expertise in Python scripting for test automation (mandatory).
  4. Thorough understanding of L2/L3 network protocols, including TCP/IP, Ethernet, and related RFCs.
  5. Experience with TCP RFC validation and performance testing of network protocols.
  6. Proficiency in using IXIA Test Equipment for network testing and validation.
  7. Hands-on experience in preparing test setups and configurations for network testing.
  8. Familiarity with 100G testing on Intel-based systems and testing TCP offload and DPDK implementations.
  9. Excellent programming skills in Python and ability to write efficient and scalable automation scripts.
  10. Good understanding of traffic generators such as TRex, Ixia, Spirent, or other packet generators.
  11. Ability to set up traffic flows, including Virtual Tunnel Endpoints (VTEPs), to simulate network traffic patterns.
  12. Strong knowledge of networking concepts and protocols.
  13. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  14. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  15. Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  16. Ability to adapt quickly to changing project requirements and priorities.
